Maine’s lobsters are deservedly famous, and you can have them packed to take home, or have them shipped, at many locations around the Inn.Seaview Lobster Co. is just down Government Street, while Warren's Lobster House is just across the street. Taylor Lobster Co. and Sanders Lobster Co. are nearby. At the Kittery Outlets, Robert's Maine Grill also packs and ships.
In addition to lobsters packed to go (or to ship), there are several unusual shops in Kittery and Portsmouth selling food items. Kazimierz European Market in Wallingford Square, Kittery, carries a wide range of items from across Europe - cave-aged Cheddar, real Cadbury chocolate, luscious syrups and sausages from bangers to Polish kielbasa. Across the street from Kazimierz is MEat (Maine Meat), for fresh, aged and cured meats, emphasizing animals raised humanely within about 100 miles of Kittery. Just up Rte 1 north from the Inn are Golden Harvest Produce Market and Carl's Meat Market, where in addition to produce and meat, there are varieties of wines (Golden Harvest) and beers (Carl's), cheeses, prepared foods, and grocery items. Beach Pea Baking Company, offering a changing selection of artisan breads, sandwiches and salads, and delicious patisserie items - cookies, eclairs, cakes and tortes - is adjacent to Golden Harvest Across the street is Terracotta Pasta, for fresh-made pastas, sauces, and a variety of deli items and Italian cookies. Just up Rte 1 from Terracotta Pasta is the fabulous chocolatier Byrne and Carlson, where the chocolates are both hand-made and sold in the retail area, as well as at the shop on State Street in Portsmouth. Lovely French tea towels and candies from Europe (many different kinds of liquorice!) are available.
Salt + Spice is an offshoot of the extraordinary Black Trumpet Restaurant, for spices and blends, unusual grains and flours, digestive bitters, and more interesting things. The Salt Cellar on Commercial Alley sels (sic) salts of all kinds – not just for the kitchen!
